Claudia Wagar is an award winning artist whose work is available through Vine Arts Gallery and Publications in Sonoma, California, as well as through a growing group of galleries, wineries and websites.
Her paintings have appeared on many art and wine festival posters. This year two new posters from her drawing board will represent fabulous festivals in northern California.
Her winery posters as well as her own line of wine country landscapes, still lifes and jazz prints and notecards are popular with regular visitors to the Napa-Sonoma hot spots.
Wagar's murals have won national awards including a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Her work appears in the recently published book "Murals of California" as well as many other national and local publications.
In addition to studying printmaking at Oxford Polytechnic in Oxford, England, she graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts where she studied with Ralph Borge, Robert Bechtel, Richard Gayton, Harry Krell and Roy de Forest.
In her landscapes, still lifes, portraits and murals, she attempts to capture the inner essence of her subject. Her emphasis is on the drawing. "For me, the drawing is important because it provides the structure for the painting. I think my best skill is drawing so I rely on that to capture my subject, then I am free to explore further with paint".
The artist is available at (707) 996-7054. Her studio is in the historic Cooperage building at 301 First Street West, Sonoma, CA.
